MAINlite brings many of the advanced features of the MAINenterprise product to address the requirements of smaller organizations. Although designed with the small to medium-sized application in mind, MAINlite nevertheless retains the ability to upgrade to the MAINenterprise product as needs dictate.

- one Information Server and Data Server co-located on a single system
- support for Windows NT Server platform
- use of transaction processing to ensure integrity and survivability
- up to 30 concurrent users per server, and 500 gigabytes of storage

- ability to upgrade to full MAINenterprise server
An initial MAINlite installation might include a single Windows NT Server system that included server and client components, as well as attached paper scanner and possibly an optical jukebox. Larger configurations would include additional client stations, connecting to the Server via a LAN, and a combination of web browser clients and fat-client applications.
The MAINgateway provides the secure connection between MAINenterprise and MAINlite servers and web servers, and other applications.
